The rates went sky high, they put you on a different plan then what you sign up for, they change your contract dates, they bill you for fees and then can't explain what they are for, they lie to the FAA when you do file a complaint, Customer Service is the worst in the industry. Do your self a favor and do not sign up with this company. There are other companies that want your business and are willing to work for you. ”

“ I received a visit from a TXU representative today advising that the people in my community are being overcharged by our electric provider. She explained that although my contract states one rate with Startex Power, Im really paying between 11 to 12 cents for energy. She offered me a 5.5 cents rate for 24 months and a visa gift card for $150.00 if I would switch to TXU and stated that if I was not satisfied with my first bill they will switch me back to Startex. I usually don't entertain sales reps but the 5.5 cents rate got my attention. After a few more questions I declined her offer due to a previous unpleasant experience with TXU. Since it is time to renew my contract I went to a website that compares rates for my area. I saw a couple of rates that seemed to be reasonable but not too familiar with the actual companies. I then went to Startex Powerss website and saw one plan that Id like to enroll in but its only a 9 month plan (wish it was for 24 months). I have been with them since September 2007 and have no complaints about my bills but I will continue to look since I have a little time left to renew. I wish they offered more competitive plans in my area. ”
“ I have been with StarTexPower since 07, and have not had a problem untill now when I got a huge electrical bill. I always have re-signed up with StarTexPower in December, and did again the first week of December 2011. I remember becauce I had my son over at the time and was trying to get him to switch to StarTexPower. I received in the mail a letter from StarTexPower to go to there website and punch in the code in the letter and I would received my new offer, which i did. The offer was 0.087 per kwh which seemed good to me, even though i saw better offers out there. I clicked the accept box and the next screen said that it was a done deal, and that is all I would need to do. I checked the electric bills for Jan and Feb and all was good, they were charging me 0.087 per kwh like they were supposed to do. Then I quit checking the bill untill I got the July bill where I saw they charged me 0.143 pre kwh, so I called and they said I did't signed up and they could charged me what ever they wanted. I said I did signed up, and her response was prove it, and I asked her how could I prove it, and she said that was my problem. I asked to talk to a superviser, and she said one would call me tommorow, of course nobody did call me, so I called back that evening, went thru it again, was denied again, and I asked to talk to a superviser again, was told to hold, which I did for 25 minutes, and finally got to talk to a superviser. She said there was nothing she could do nothing for me accept offer me 20 dollars back if I signed a new contract even though I been with them for five years. I declined and will instead switch to somebody else, and file a complaint with PUCT. I caned help but think that they lose your sign up sheets at low rates so they can stick it to you when your not looking. Anybody else with this problem, maybe there is a class action lawsuite there if this is a standard bussiness practice of theres. ”
“ Same as all the other reviews, they changed their billing system without notifying their customers. Hold times exceedingly long so I tried emails, but those went unanswered. Customer service reps worthless, double billing, unexplained charges/credits, and rate increases to boot. Adios StarTex, never again. ”

I have been a customer for 6 years with great service until now! Constellation needs to clean out their management team and start over with someone that knows the importance of customer service. You can not have customer service reps that can not correct problems. If you ask a billing question that needs an answer they have to contact billing. Oh and don't expect a call back. I have been working on a problem for two months and now my account is locked and they don't know how to in lock it so I can renew. Once I find out for sure my contract has indeed expired I am out of there.
The billing reps never talk to anyone. I feel bad for the service reps. They are on the firing line and it is not their fault. The management team does not allow them to make corrections as before. You never get to talk to anyone further up the chain of command. Get out while you can! ”
“ I have had Startex off and on for several years and have been happy for the most part. They have never got my bill wrong. The only thing that makes me consider switching is since constellation energy bought them out their rates have gone up and are not near as competitive. If they would offer their current customers better rates when it is time to renew then they would not switch as readily. After looking at the companies who have six month contracts today I find several in the 8.0 to 8.5 per kwh and star tex is at 9.5 for the same 2,000 kwh level. It seems that as you get close to renewal the price goes up just before you can lock it in (within 45 days before). I hope in the future they look at this so maybe they will change and want to keep their current customers. Thanks ”

Had been using StarTex for years. Recently my tenant, unknown to me, "signed" a deal with a new provider, unknowlingly to me. StarTex sent me a bill for $500 for cancelling the contract! StarTex promised to "review the matter", NEVER got back with me.
Moral of the Story - Buyer Beware when signing a contract w/ StarTex. Should something happen, their answer is a non-negotiable $500 penalty. ”
“ I can't believe how my payments went double in December with no reason. I had a good average of usage, but this month they have charged me like if I had my one bedroom apartment with lights in every drawer of the place . I thought they were charging me the for next month too. From 600 kWt they went to almost 1200 kWt . I have no idea how the calculated. Unfortunately I can't see how the meter is read and it looks like they decide that just because it is christmas we have used what they say. Besides that my January bill went even higher, for the same one bedroom apartment I was charged around 200 dollars being at home only one person, not using the oven, taking 4 minute showers, etc. I just Do not recommend this company with this kind of abuse. ”
“ Have had Startex for since 2011. Well pleased with rates and service. However, when we received our renewal coming up May 24, 2013, the rates had jumped considerably. Looked on Power to Choose and found a Star Secure One Year Plan for 9.9. However, when we called to renew they stated they do not have that plan. It is the one we have had in the past, just a slight rate increase. The only plan they could offer us was 10.1 or 10.5. Our rate for 5/12-5/13 was 9.7. Why do you not honor the plan on Power to Choose? ”

“ I am not gonna give even 1 star. I was basically enrolled on AutoPay and everything was fine until last December. Suddenly, I noticed that my CC was not getting any bills for electricity. I just noticed by accident after 3 months!!! I am trying to get hold of the customer care and understand why that happened and on the call for the past 58 minutes and counting but havent got a chance to speak to the customer care yet...Its not worth it...I am moving out for sure! ”

“ I recently moved from Houston, TX to Mansfield, TX. I called a week in advance to have my electric service transferred to my new address. Upon arrival to my new address, the electricity had not been transferred as scheduled. I immediately contacted Star Tex Power and was told by a representative that the service was inadvertently applied to the wrong address and that it would be corrected by the end of the day. Well not only did the idiot change the service to the CORRECT address, she NEVER REMOVED the WRONG ADDRESS. I've been billed for TWO residences and cannot get ANYONE in this awful company to rectify the situation after THREE MONTHS. I cannot wait until this contract is up, where I will definitely be switching companies. In the meantime I am consulting with an attorney. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! “ I have been a customer for years. I can't believe the crap this company has pulled!!! In November my bill was $80...in December more than $400. I work 12 hours a day and live alone. There is no way on Gods green earth I could ever use that much electricity for a bill that high. Each month it has creeped back down but not much. Customer service was a joke. They told me that the meter was read correctly and I was on the hook for the money. Very dissatisfied. “ Where do I begin? Horrible Customer Service! -- One important thing -- they CANNOT (or would not) properly or adequately compute an electric bill using "average billing" (so I wouldn't incur the $400/$500+ bill[s] in June, July, August!) In other words, I ended up paying over $700.00+ at the end of their ridiculous "10" month cycle. (Go figure? My contract is fixed for 36 months -- why the hell is "average billing" ONLY for 10 months? Run it the ENTIRE term of the contract!! (i.e.,36 months) I'd gladly pay any deficiencies(shouldn't be any though) at the end! Can't wait until the contact period ends!! "Customer Service" i.e., their employees AND supervisors are absymal!! Rates are one thing -- But I'd GLADLY pay slightly higher rates for competent, polite, and knowledgable customer service folks!Finally, not that I'd stay, but NO attempt has been made to try to "keep" me as a customer. RUN from this company!! Competition in the marketplace works!! ”
