Billing Problems and Complaints (310 reviews)
Direct Energy is GREAT!
“ I've been w/Direct Energy for a few years now. Their plans & services are without a doubt, some of the best around. We're very pleased w/our ongoing rate of $0.0500 per kilowatt-hour is most competitive around. Their website is extremely user-friendly & customer service is outstanding. My ONLY complaint is the differences displayed online vs. paper bill. However, this primarily due to when I actually pay, a full week after the billing statement. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DIRECT ENERGY AS AN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTOR! ”

Bill was sent to Apt management
“ I moved here from Orlando on Aug 1. The first bill was sent to my apt manager. I paid her for that bill. After that billing is correct ”

No surprises
“ Painless to switch from previous provider. No billing or rate issues... They do what they say they will do. Competitive rates. Timely notification of renewal.Color us satisfied with no rationale to switch at this time. ”

So Sad to Change from Startex, but Renewal Rates just weren't competitive
“ I have nothing but absolutely positive things to say about Startex. Their billing is easily read and accurate. Their signup prices were competitive and their minimum usage fee kicked in at a much lower usage than other companies. They were extremely helpful in their signup and the only time I spoke with customer service, which was to ask about renewal rates because my contract is ending, they were extremely polite and helpful. I was only on hold for maybe 2 minutes and the young lady who helped me was exceptionally polite and knowledgeable. The ONLY reason I'm having to leave is because they are offering me an increase in my current rate for the next 12 months and they are quite a bit higher than some of the new contract prices that other companies are offering right now. However, I had intended to stay with them if they would have maintained my current rates so if you are a new customer, you cannot go wrong with their service or prices! ”

Easy
“ I signed up for a six month plan and everything went smooth. Connection, (online) billing and payment, and disconnection when I moved out all went smooth and without surprises. I had great service every time I called customer service. They didn't have the best price, but I would rather pay an extra cent/kwH than have to deal with incompetence. ”

Solid choice for Renewable Energy
“ Green Mountain doesn't have the cheapest plan by far, and not even the cheapest renewable plan, but they do have stability, consistency, and reliability. I've been a customer for several years now (coming up on my third contract renewal) and I'm very wary of switching away from GME even if it means potentially saving $1000 a year on power. Their website is easy to use and intuitive. Averaged billing great. The ONLY negative I ever experienced was when I was not paying attention and missed the contract renewal. Once you switch to "month by month" expect to be paying almost DOUBLE the rate. To be fair, they did send me ONE letter about this, and from what I'm reading many companies are much worse about not nudging the customer to renew a contract so the company can reap those sweet, sweet month-to-month rates. So stay on top of that contract renewal! ”
